Dr. Kevin Meador

A Life Consecrated to Prayer (1967-2022)

Ministers of the gospel often dwell on the importance of prayer. They desire their people to reach the point where they are dedicated to prayer. This website was formed to support that end. The resources you will find here are the fruit of the labors of a man who lived a consecrated life to the Lord Jesus Christ because he knew everything depended upon God. Such a man will be a praying man, and Kevin Meador was a praying man.

Early Life and Education

Kevin Meador was a graduate of Union High School (Union, MS – 1985), East Central Junior College (Decatur, MS – Associate of Arts, 1987), Mississippi College (Clinton, MS – Bachelor of Arts, 1989), New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity, 1992), and Reformed Theological Seminary (Jackson, MS – Doctor of Divinity, 1998).

Call to Ministry

Kevin was called into the Gospel ministry at the age of 19 while a college student. He was ordained at his home church, Pinckney Baptist Church in Union, MS. Though he did not serve as a full-time pastor of a church during his ministry, he served as an interim pastor and filled the pulpit at numerous churches in central Mississippi. Serving as an evangelist, Kevin preached revival services at an untold number of churches in Mississippi and around the United States.

Kevin was committed to preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. His heart burned to lead people into a right relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. He also had an agonizing burden to encourage and motivate believers in their prayer lives. He conducted workshops on prayer, fasting, spiritual warfare, and healing among believers of every denomination.

Denominational Service

Although a lifelong Baptist, Kevin was approved by the Presbytery of the Mississippi Valley to serve two churches in the Presbyterian Church in America as regular stated supply. These churches were the Dekalb Presbyterian Church in Dekalb and the Pleasant Springs Presbyterian Church in Preston. This is an almost unheard-of decision within the conservative Presbyterian denomination and speaks highly of Kevin’s reputation and abilities.

Prayer Closet Ministries

Through the Prayer Closet and Kingdom Praying ministries which were headquartered in Hickory, Mississippi, Kevin was the author of at least 167 newsletters which were published from 1998 to the end of 2022. In his first Prayer Closet newsletter in January 1998, Dr. Meador presented the reason for beginning this ministry: “The vision of ‘The Prayer Closet’ is to lead believers from a saving knowledge of God to intimate fellowship with God through prayer.” Dr. Meador led this ministry faithfully for twenty-five years.

Kevin also prepared over 80 self-published resources on prayer, prayer walking, spiritual warfare, and other Christian subjects. He provided these resources to anyone who requested them for a suggested donation or free of charge.

Final Days

Kevin was a tireless preacher, evangelist, prayer warrior, and confidant to untold numbers of people around the country. Though he was very sick, weak, and exhausted, Kevin preached at the First Presbyterian Church of Union, Mississippi on Christmas morning of the day before his untimely death in December 2022.

His ministry and friendship impacted thousands of believers across the United States and in places around the world. His printed materials and this website continue to encourage Christians and build up the kingdom of God.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Kevin’s Heart for Prayer

Kevin Meador wanted the times we live in to be praying times and the Christians of our day to be praying Christians. His heart’s desire and prayer were to promote a spirit of prayerfulness. He wanted those who never prayed yet to arise and call upon God and those who do pray to see the power of the living God at work through prayer.

“The vision of ‘The Prayer Closet’ is to lead believers from a saving knowledge of God to intimate fellowship with God through prayer.”

Kevin knew that prayer was both a gift and a duty for Christians and that the true happiness of every Christian consisted in his spiritual communion with God. This communion is exercised by praying and learning scripture, and you will find that this website serves you well in both.
